Which gardening zone is Park Rapids in?

Park Rapids area is in the 3a - 3b zone, which means that plants, trees and shrubs that can stand temperatures to -40° F will typically survive the winter. Any plants you choose that are not cold hardy to these temperatures will need to be replanted the following spring.

What is the difference between a perennial and an annual?

Perennials are plants that go dormant and "die down" to the ground every year, and return in the spring. If you place your perennials in the right spot for their needs, you don't have to replant them.

Annuals are plants that are not cold hardy and will die at the end of the season. In the spring, you will have to replant your annuals.

When is the last hard frost in spring? And the first hard frost in fall?
The last hard frost usually happens around the end of May and beginning of June. The first hard frost occurs the last half of September. The dates vary from year to year. If you have plants you need to protect, have suggestions for you.
